About
Alan Luhowy, Athletic Therapist CAT (C), CSCS
After graduating from Crocus Plains Regional Secondary High School in 1992 I attended Brandon University for two years. While at BU I began learning about the profession of Athletic Therapy, and since I’ve always had an interest in sports and being active, it seemed like the perfect career.
I was accepted into the Athletic Therapy program at Mount Royal College in Calgary, Alberta, and graduated in 1997 with a Diploma in Athletic Therapy. I returned to Brandon University to complete my degree and worked under Steve Dzubinski, the Head Athletic Therapist. I gained valuable experience working under Steve in the Sports Medicine Centre and was also fortunate enough to work at the CIS Men’s Basketball Nationals with the Bobcats in Halifax that year.
After gaining clinical and field experience at Brandon University, I moved on and worked with the Lebret Eagles of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League and the London Knights in England of the Ice Hockey Super League. In London, I was part of the first team from Great Britain to make it to the Continental Cup Final Tournament where we won a silver medal in Zurich, Switzerland.
Upon my return, I began my career at Frederickson Performance Centre in April of 2003. During the last 14 years I have built a successful practice combining both components of Athletic Therapy and Personal Training for my clients.
I regularly attend the CATA National Conference and am continuously working to improve my skills and knowledge. In 2014, I received a Merit Award for the extraordinary effort in helping save someone’s life.
I am a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. I am certified through Sole Supports for custom fit orthotics. Certified for testing functional movement through the Functional Movement Screen systems. Certified for Neuroproprioceptive taping and Certified in Soft Tissue Release Techniques. I use all of these techniques, as well as different electrical modalities and specific stretching and strengthening exercises to assist clients in achieving their goals or recover from an injury they may have.
I work with a diverse clientele ranging from athletes who participate in sporting activities to the general public who are looking for ways to relieve their aches and pains. Whether acute or chronic injuries, pre or post-surgery, or if you are just wanting to improve the quality of your daily living, I am here to assist you and look forward to helping you move better, feel better, and live better!
